MODULE 2. Patient care, breast imaging and quality assurance competences for radiographers
3.1. The function and the physics of mammography device
For the radiographer it is important be aware of the function and physics of the mammography device. A lot of information has been written and published but in order to understand the soul of mammography devices, you have to collect information from different sources, piece by piece. This animation and presentation collect all together and offer you a possibility to save the time spent on searching for the information.
With the help of animations, the basic structure of mammography device and its special features, the heel-effect, the purpose of breast compression, how the automatic exposure control works and selects kV, mAs, anode target and filtering according to breast thickness and composition are explained in the video. The video covers the principles related to computed radiography detectors and digital radiography detectors: functions of direct conversion, indirect conversion and photoncounting detectors.
