Early detection of breast cancer for health professionals
MODULE 1
Interprofessional working in early detection of breast cancer
In the first learning module the diagnostic breast cancer process is dealt with from global, national and international viewpoints and breast cancer epidemiological issues are considered. The roles and tasks of different health professionals are described and the importance of interprofessional cooperation in the care and service chain is covered. The issues related to communication and psychosocial issues related to breast cancer are highlighted.
|
Objective: To provide the learner an overview of different health professionals’ roles and tasks and their interprofessional cooperation in early breast cancer detection.
|
MODULE 2
Patient care, breast imaging and quality assurance competences for radiographers
The second learning module for radiographers consists of the physics and function of equipment used in breast screening imaging (mammography), including quality assurance, patient care and positioning with breast anatomy, image quality criteria and artefacts.
|
Objective: To improve radiographers’ skills and competences in screening mammography both from technical and patient care aspects in order to serve the clients better.
|
MODULE 3
Further laboratory and imaging examinations related to breast cancer diagnostics
The third learning module, consist of newer imaging modalities and further biomedical laboratory examinations for breast cancer. Physics and function of equipment, technological principles, patient awareness and safety, contrast media aspect, biopsies, pre-analytical factors in sample collection, immunohistochemically markers and blood tests are presented. Competences expected are complex activities both technical and professional.
The learning module is targeted to radiographer and biomedical laboratory scientists participating in the diagnostic process of breast cancer. This module may also be useful for other health care professions. |
Objective: To improve radiographer’s and biomedical laboratory scientist`s skills and competencies in newer imaging modalities and further biomedical laboratory examinations.
